1. Edward Richtofen

  • Role: Former Group 935 scientist, main antagonist (early in the storyline)
  • Personality:
    • Sadistic and insane, with a love for experimentation and torture.
    • Paranoid and manipulative, always scheming to achieve his own twisted goals.
    • Egotistical, believing himself superior to others.
    • Has a bizarre sense of humor, often laughing during chaotic situations.
  • Backstory: Richtofen was a scientist for Group 935, but after discovering the Aether, he sought to overthrow Dr. Maxis and control the zombies.
  • Motivation: Initially to overthrow Maxis, but later to control the Aether and the zombie horde.

2. Tank Dempsey



  • Full Name: Corporal "Tank" Dempsey
  • Nationality: American
  • Role: Marine turned zombie killer
  • Personality:
    • Brash, loud, and the stereotypical tough American soldier.
    • Patriotic and disdainful of anything German, often clashing with Richtofen.
    • Hard-headed, preferring brute force to solve problems.
    • Dry, sometimes dark sense of humor.
  • Backstory: Dempsey was part of a team sent to extract Peter McCain but ended up joining Richtofen’s crew to fight the zombie threat.
  • Motivation: Survival and stopping the zombie outbreak, though he despises Richtofen.

3. Nikolai Belinski



  • Full Name: Nikolai Belinski
  • Nationality: Russian
  • Role: Soviet Red Army soldier
  • Personality:
    • Alcoholic, constantly referencing his love for vodka.
    • Nihilistic and often depressed, with a tragic backstory.
    • Exaggerated comedic statements, frequently talking about his dead wives.
    • Bravery and loyalty shine through, despite his drunken behavior.
  • Backstory: A former Red Army soldier, Nikolai has suffered personal loss, frequently mentioning his many deceased wives.
  • Motivation: Primarily survival, but he stays loyal to his comrades, especially Takeo.

  • Role: Imperial Japanese Army officer
  • Personality:
    • Honorable and bound by the Bushido code.

    • Stoic, rarely showing extreme emotions.
    • Respectful of his comrades, especially Nikolai.
  • Backstory: An Imperial Japanese officer who became involved in the zombie outbreak after being captured by Group 935.
  • Motivation: To restore his honor by fighting against the zombie apocalypse and fulfilling his destiny.

  • Role: Controller of the zombies (voice only in Black Ops 1)
  • Personality:

  • Backstory: Daughter of Dr. Maxis, Samantha gains control of the zombies after being trapped in the Aether.
